Klean Graphite

Graphite Materials

Graphite is the bulk crystalline form of carbon, supplied in natural, synthetic and engineered grades whose purity, particle size and crystallinity decide where they can be used.

Graphite looks simple and behaves anything but. Carbon atoms sit in hexagonal sheets held together by weak forces between layers, and nearly every useful property comes from that geometry: the sheets slide, which gives lubricity; electrons move within the plane, which gives conductivity; the structure tolerates extreme heat without melting, which gives refractory performance; and lithium ions slip between layers and out again, which is what makes a battery anode possible.

The Main Forms of Graphite

Specifications That Actually Decide a Sale

Buyers rarely argue about the word graphite. They argue about numbers. Carbon purity runs from roughly 85% for industrial grades to 99.95% and above for anode and speciality work. Particle size distribution, expressed through D10, D50 and D90, governs packing, coating behaviour and electrode density. BET surface area controls reactivity and binder demand. Tap density, ash content, moisture, sulphur and trace metals each disqualify a grade for a specific application. Degree of graphitization, measured by interlayer spacing, is the property that separates a conductive filler from a functioning anode material.

Where These Materials Go

High-purity graphite and conductive carbon serve lithium-ion battery anodes, dry and solid lubricants, refractories and foundry products, electrodes and crucibles, friction materials, and conductive or antistatic polymers. Each of those markets reads the same datasheet differently, which is why grade selection is a technical conversation rather than a catalogue choice.

Why the Process Side Matters

Klean Industries engineers and owns thermal-treatment plants — pyrolysis, gasification and carbonization — and produces recovered carbon black and other carbon products from end-of-life tires and plastics, so grade questions are approached from how carbon is actually made and purified rather than from a trading sheet.

Match the Grade to the Application, Not the Other Way Around
